The Stroudwater Navigation once carried goods from many parts of the British Isles and beyond but gradually fell into disuse and was abandoned by Act of Parliament in 1954. It is currently undergoing restoration and when completed it will once more be possible to travel from the Junction at Saul to Stroud and back.
