Picture of Maggie Annie

By Coral Horton

Can anyone shed any light on the history of this picture which has been in the Meadows family for years. It could be a ship captained by either George Meadows of Longney or the Silvey family of Epney. ?? Thanks.

Coral, Not sure of the vessel but the image looks like an Eric Aldridge image, will get back to you. Paul

Coral you may find this of some use, Maggie Annie (Official number 78706) was a wooden Ketch rigged vessel built in 1881 at Bridgwater and was once owned by Richard Hillman of Epney, Gloucester. She was eventually laid up at Antony near Torpoint on 23rd March 1932. Further the Friends of Purton currently hold two negatives of the vessel and we would be happy to share them with you should meet the reproduction costs. Yours, Paul

Yes I think it is Eric Aldridge, he was some sort of relative I think. Thanks for details of the ketch, I now have something I can follow up, yes I will pay reproduction costs on negatives, gladly. Thanks.

Just to say that I have a photo taken in 1934 of what I believe to be the 'Maggie Annie'.  It was taken off The Needles by my late father from the 'Bessie Ellen'.
